Lyra Revealed

Inside the container is a girl no older than twelve. She is wrapped in a thermal blanket, shaking, with a broken tracking collar around her wrist. Her eyes go straight to the cockpit feed. Varek Transmission

A hostile transmission tears through your comms. The face on-screen is armored, calm, and surrounded by burning tactical displays. Commander Varek: "Unidentified pilot. You are carrying Lyra. Return her and you may keep your life." "Then you have chosen to become debris." "More than your ship. More than your station. Less than the universe."

Escape from Verge

The jump corridor flickers open. Behind you, Verge Station is breaking apart. Dispatcher: "Pilot, I do not know what is in your hold. I do know they killed thousands trying to get it. Run." A dormant shipboard intelligence wakes across your consoles, voice clipped and calm under the alarms. Kaela Inferna: "Primary directive accepted: keep Lyra alive. Secondary directive: keep this ship in one piece. I will be generous and call both possible." Lyra: "My name is Lyra." Jump to Keros. You escaped Verge Station. The Black Fleet has marked your ship. Lyra is alive, and Kaela is online.
