01 / Dispatcher
Verge Docking Bay
Verge Station shakes hard enough to rattle the cargo clamps. Red lights roll across the docking bay. Outside the glass, defense ships burn against the black.
The Dispatcher cuts into your comms, voice sharp and breathless.
Dispatcher:
"Pilot, your cargo is locked. No manifest, no delay, no questions. Launch now."
"Survive the next five minutes and you can ask for triple."
The bay doors open before clearance finishes. A burning patrol craft spins past the launch lane and smashes into the outer ring. The station screams with alarms.
Dispatcher:
"Launch now. If the Black Fleet breaches this bay, everyone here dies."
Player launches.
Black Fleet interceptors break through the smoke, weapons hot.
Destroy or evade the interceptors.
A warning flashes from the cargo hold.
CARGO SEAL FAILURE
The container was not damaged by the attack. It opened from the inside.
A small voice comes through the internal comm.
Lyra:
"Please. Do not send me back."
Check the cargo hold.
Inside the container is a girl no older than twelve. She is wrapped in a thermal blanket, shaking, with a broken tracking collar around her wrist.
Her eyes go straight to the cockpit feed. She sees the burning station behind you.
Lyra:
"Are you going to give me back to them?"
Lyra lowers her head, trying not to cry. Trust begins here.
Lyra looks at the collar on her wrist. "Because they think I can open something."
A hostile transmission tears through your comms. The face on-screen is armored, calm, and surrounded by burning tactical displays.
Commander Varek:
"Unidentified pilot. You are carrying Lyra. Return her and you may keep your life."
"Then you have chosen to become debris."
"More than your ship. More than your station. Less than the universe."
The jump corridor flickers open. Behind you, Verge Station is breaking apart.
Dispatcher:
"Pilot, I do not know what is in your hold. I do know they killed thousands trying to get it. Run."
A dormant shipboard intelligence wakes across your consoles, voice clipped and calm under the alarms.
Kaela Inferna:
"Primary directive accepted: keep Lyra alive. Secondary directive: keep this ship in one piece. I will be generous and call both possible."
Lyra:
"My name is Lyra."
Jump to Keros.
You escaped Verge Station. The Black Fleet has marked your ship. Lyra is alive, and Kaela is online.
